A few days ago, I saw a post from a FB “friend” in response to Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez addressing an issue to Congress. I cannot recall at the moment what it was about, but it was shared from a page of individuals who do not like Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, and in hindsight, I believe they were trying to expose a mistake she or something they disagreed with.
This “friend” shared the post with the response, “She is a complete idiot!”
I will admit, I mildly scolded this friend at first, saying that she is a little too old to be calling someone “stupid” just because she may not agree with them. She responded to agree (to my surprise) about being too old for put-downs, but she also mentioned that she “calls it out like she sees it.”
Then I asked, “Okay, so what specifically makes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez a ‘complete idiot?”
I figured the “too old” part would be what warranted the unfriending, but again, in hindsight, I probably wasn’t unfriended at that point because she was able to repeat that Ocasio-Cortez was a “complete idiot.” I was only unfriended after asking for specifics because, OH NO…now this “friend” has to justify calling her this.
Chances are, this friend knew that no matter how much she replied with, she would never be able to explain again, specifically, why Ocasio-Cortez is a “complete idiot.”
This former social media “friend” was not the only person to make a comment about Ocasio-Cortez that really did not make sense only to retreat once asked to clarify. I don’t mean intelligent and respectful disagreement(s).
I’m talking when you call her names. Say that she’s some form of “stupid.” Either you retreat, or give me something to the tune of “IF YOU DON’T GET IT, THEN YOU NEVER WILL,” whatever that’s supposed to mean.
Republicans/Conservatives, let’s cut to the chase.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a threat to you.
She knows it.
So do YOU.
This is not up for discussion as far as I’m concerned. As a black man, I have been around long enough and am intelligent enough to understand the difference between someone who has legitimate complaints/concerns about someone and when, as some like to refer it, someone is just being a “hater.”
Yes, there IS a difference.
I would never have an issue with people expressing a disagreement with Ocasio-Cortez and backing it up with facts. Nothing wrong with that at all.
But we know that isn’t how a lot of folks, especially those against her, will operate. And I’ve tried to understand this “hate” certain people have for her.
As much as I would like to believe that we’ve truly evolved as a nation, our current president has shown us that in many ways, we really have not. Either we have taken an enormous amount of steps backward or we have really been fooling ourselves on how far we’ve come forward.
The bottom line is simple.
Ocasio-Cortez is a woman. She is also Latina. Not only is she not “sitting down and shutting up,” but she seems “confused” on her “place.”
THAT ALONE annoys a lot of people.
The attacks on her are laughable, to say the least. This obsession with her has traveled far past desperation.
For starters, she is more in touch with the average American than most other members of Congress ever will be. That makes a lot of you grossly uncomfortable.
She is also exposing a lot of what is wrong with the government. Not only is she doing this against many of those you support, but she is doing this again, as a Latina woman and Democrat. Shame on her.
A lot of you believe that she was not as “poor” as she conveyed herself to be, starting with her wardrobe. That alone proves how out-of-touch you are. See, those of us who know what it’s like to be poor have learned a little skill called BORROWING. That’s right.
So while there are all these tired memes and pictures going around to express that the clothes Ms. Ocasio-Cortez wears are expensive (especially without any credible proof; gotta love those), it escapes many of you that she could have been provided these clothes or have borrowed them. Those of us who have been poor know that VERY well.
Not to mention, with all these pictures going around detailing the prices of the clothes she has been wearing, how do you know she hasn’t bought them used, borrowed them, or that those are even the ACTUAL prices?
Never mind. You don’t care. It’s just another way to put her down.
Some of you have even gone as far as to call out the fact that she didn’t spend her ENTIRE life in the “hood.” Hell, neither have I. I grew up in Baltimore City and I don’t live there now. That doesn’t mean I don’t understand what it’s like for the poor individuals out there. I also don’t believe Ocasio-Cortez has ever stated that she has ONLY lived in poor areas of New York. But the pundits at Fox News and their supporters seem to believe that “have” something in pointing this out.
What is especially disturbing is this tweet on February 7, 2019, from John LeFevre, whoever he is:
@aoc has a 430 credit score, two evictions, and an empty résumé Just two months ago, she couldn’t afford an apartment in DC Now, the Democratic leadership has put her on the Financial Services Committee & the media is saying that her Green New Deal will “reshape” the economy”
Now, I’m still trying to locate where Ocasio-Cortez made her credit score known publicly, and I don’t mean secondhand. Otherwise, my question is how LeFevre was able to retrieve this information.
Second, it is always amusing as to how people love to attack her lack of experience. HELLO…Donald Trump is not only inexperienced, but reeks of it every time he opens his mouth or posts another tweet. Yet, those same folks are okay with that.
So we know “lack of experience” isn’t what this is about.
Ocasio-Cortez has also tweeted about how Republicans have began circulating false versions of her Green New Deal legislation.
She also spoke recently about how broken campaign finance laws are.
These are not even the most blatant lies told about her. I could sit here and list every other instance in which a Conservative has lied on or about her for one reason or another.
If she is not a threat, then help me understand why that is necessary.
Only people who pose as threats are attacked. I look at a lot of what’s being said to and about her, and just about all of it is lies and insults. That’s it.
She is really going against the grain.
A LOT of you are NOT ready for that.
And LOW AND BEHOLD…she responds to a lot of these silly “attacks.” So even your lousy attempts to bully her are failing.
A while ago, an old video was posted in which she was dancing in college. Not provocative at all. Rated G; something I’m okay with my 11-year-old daughter watching. Of course, she was “attacked” for that also, of course, by the same ones who don’t have a problem with a 59-year-old Donald Trump saying that he “kisses women without even asking.”
Her response to those “attacks”? By dancing again as a member of Congress for a few seconds before entering her own office for a meeting.
Before you question why she responds to these attacks, remember that just about every tweet our “president” sends out is an “attack” of some kind, or some childish response to the truth someone has exposed about him. And don’t take my word for it. This isn’t something I’m just making up. They’re on his Twitter feed.
For those of you who are religious (which many of you claim to be), remember that the Devil often attacks those who are a threat to him as well.
Many of you will claim she is not a threat at all. Of course you will.
But when someone not only goes against what the “popular” kids do, as they also fight back against those who have something to say about it, I don’t care who you are or where you are from.
That person becomes a serious threat.
I spoke above about us not having really evolved much as a nation. Proof of this is that Ocasio-Cortez has been called names that of course, are largely reserved for females (for example, the infamous “C” word). The mere fact that these are NOT names used on males verifies this. And as expected, this comes from the same crowd who claims to be religious. Of course they do.
A mature adult would simply state what parts of what Ocasio-Cortez is saying that they do not agree with, rather than resorting to the name-calling and excessive lies.
But oh…that’s when the person involved is not a threat of some kind.
And Ocasio-Cortez is.
She knows it.
So do you.
